Why I built this.

What I saw, and what I decided to do about it.

The Restaurant Stars

I've been in and around the food industry for most of my adult life. My sister owns a successful restaurant, and I've watched up close what it takes out of an owner. You want to be busy, but the busier you get, the more there is to manage, and the harder it becomes to keep track of any of it.

I've seen owners who look, from the outside, like they're running thriving businesses quietly burn out, with borderline panic every other weekend. And I've watched places I loved close down. It saddens me every time.

My sister opened a second branch. It had to close.

Not because people didn't come. The reviews were great. The locals were sad to see it go. In the moment, she couldn't tell you why it wasn't working.

So we sat down together and went through the numbers. It was right there in front of us: they were over-ordering stock that went to waste, and overstaffing through the quiet hours. That was it. That second branch could have worked, but she had too much on her plate to catch any of it in the moment, and had to lean on a manager who was never going to be as invested as she was.

“The reviews were great. The locals were sad to see it close. In the moment, she couldn't tell you why it wasn't profitable.”

That stayed with me. There had to be a better way for an independent restaurant to keep track of these things, a way to run with the efficiency the big chains take for granted.

So I looked. And the problem wasn't that nothing existed. It was that too much did. A dozen companies, each solving one slice of the problem, each with its own subscription, its own setup, its own learning curve for the staff. Stitched together it cost too much and asked too much. For a busy owner, it was never going to happen.

So I decided to build it myself.

I built her a staff portal aimed squarely at her two biggest burdens:

  • Stock: Her team logs inventory and raises order requests for her to approve, so she stops swinging between waste and emergency stock runs.
  • People:Staff clock in and out, wages and tips calculate themselves, and she can see exactly what she's spending on labour each week at the click of a button. Rotas get built and shared in the same place.

She's not looked back since. A weight came off her shoulders, and both she and her manager have been genuinely grateful.

I'm not telling you this to say I'm a good brother. I'm telling you because it turned into something bigger.

If I could lighten her load, I could lighten it for hundreds of owners like her, and help them start working on their business instead of drowning in it. And a tool like this doesn't just make life easier; it helps good restaurants stay open. That matters. A restaurant is where a neighbourhood gathers and where people mark the occasions they remember for the rest of their lives. Watching one close is one of the quiet losses a community feels.

“I wanted owners working on their business, not drowning in it.”

I wanted to be part of what keeps them open.

There was one more thing I kept coming back to: how the chains actually manage it.

It isn't better instincts. Often the independent owner down the road has the sharper instincts. What the chains have is data. I'd spent years working with some of the UK's largest food manufacturers, suppliers and retailers, and I'd sat across from CEOs and CFOs who all said a version of the same thing. Their numbers were the single most important tool they had for making a good decision.

And good decisions are quietly what decide whether a business makes it. Instinct still matters. But instinct backed by real numbers is a different game, and most restaurateurs never get the second half. They're running on feel alone.

“Good instincts get you far. Good instincts backed by good data is a different game entirely.”

That's the gap I wanted to close: make it effortless for a team to put the right information in, then hand it back to the owner in a way that actually makes sense.

So I created The Restaurant Stars, to do for other restaurants what I did for my sister.

If you decide to put your trust in us, thank you. And I promise you this: I'll put everything into making sure your restaurant runs in a way that brings you joy, not stress.

01

Done for you, not handed to you

Most tools hand you a login and wish you luck. We build it, run it, and keep it running, you stay in the kitchen.

02

Plain English over dashboards

You shouldn't need to decode a chart to know how your week went. We tell you in a sentence you can read in ten seconds.

03

We'd rather refund you than trap you

No lock-in, no dark patterns. If it isn't earning its place, you leave with your money, that keeps us honest.

We're taking on a small number of founding restaurants right now.

When they're live and happy, their names and their real before-and-after numbers will live here. Until then, we're not going to borrow anyone else's.
